UQ Communications Acquires Mobile WiMAX Radio License for Tokai, Kansai Areas
Obtaining of a mobile WiMAX wireless license in the Tokai and Kansai districts
Tokyo, November 28, 2008: UQ Communications Inc. acquired a license to operate radio base stations for a new broadband mobile wireless access system (mobile WiMAX) that uses the 2.5 GHz band in the Tokai and Kansai regions. The license was issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' Tokai Bureau of Communications on November 25, and by the Ministry's Kinki Bureau of Communications on November 27.
UQ will acquire wireless base station licenses sequentially with the goal of starting trial services in Tokyo's 23 wards, as well as Yokohama and Kawasaki, at the end of February 2009, and commercial services (the service area to be expanded through Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka) from around the summer of 2009.
