UQ Communications Acquires Mobile WiMAX Radio License for the Okinawa region

TOKYO, November 5, 2009 - UQ Communications Inc. has acquired a license for the Okinawa region, to operate radio base stations for a new broadband mobile wireless access system (mobile WiMAX) that uses the 2.5 GHz spectrum band. The license was issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Okinawa Office of Telecommunications on November 5.

Having received this license for Okinawa, UQ has now secured regional licenses nationwide, and is prepared to further accelerate the rollout of base stations across Japan.

As of October 2009, UQ had inaugurated 4,000 WiMAX base stations, achieving the deployment target identified its "Base Station Deployment Plan," 5 months ahead of the original target of Fiscal 2009 year-end (March 31, 2010).

UQ will continue to deploy base stations to further expand its UQ WiMAX coverage area.
