Free Recruitment of Monitors for WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set

Tokyo, UQ Communications Inc. started UQ WiMAX mobile broadband service on February 26, 2009 to enable faster mobile data communications in parts of Tokyo, Yokohama and Kawasaki.

To further improve our service coverage, we have developed a WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway, and are recruiting additional monitors for trial usage.
The WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set includes a Wi-Fi convertible function and detachable USB type mobile WiMAX data communication card to allow customers to use the UQ WiMAX service in different ways with various devices, including using Wi-Fi to connect to the WiMAX network when indoors, and using the USB type WiMAX data communication card alone when away from home.

1.Recruitment of Monitors

Monitors will be recruited as follows.


(1) Recruiting Period

April 3 (Fri), 2009 (10:00 am) - April 12 (Sun), 2009 (12:00 pm)

(2) Monitoring Period

From date of delivery of the WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set until June 30 (Tue), 2009

(3) Details

During the Monitoring Period, a WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set will be loaned free of charge

(4) Number of monitors to be recruited


(5) Eligibility

[1] Subscribers to UQ WiMAX service Basic rate and sign-up fee will be waived during the Trial Period.
[2] Persons who meet the monitoring conditions
- Resident in one of the 23 Tokyo wards, Yokohama, or Kawasaki
- At least 20 years of age (businesses may not apply to be monitors)
- Persons who hold a credit card in the name used on the application form
- Persons able to cooperate in questionnaire surveys, etc. during the Monitoring Period
* Current UQ WiMAX service monitors from February 2009 are not eligible

(7)Notification and delivery

WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set will be mailed following e-mail notification on or around April 20, 2009.


[Notes for applying to be a monitor]

(Note 1) One WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set will be loaned per person.
(Note 2) After the Monitoring Period ends, customers continuing to use UQ WiMAX service will be allowed to keep the loaned WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set, free of charge from July 1, 2009. (Customers who do not continue to use the service must return the WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set.)
(Note 3) After the Trial Period ends, the basic rate applies from July 1, 2009.
(Note 4) Monitors who cease to participate before the Monitoring Period ends must return the WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set.
(Note 5) If the WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set is lost or damaged during the Monitoring Period, monitors will be billed for its purchase value, amounting to 19,800 (tax included).
(Note 6) Persons who meet the monitoring conditions are eligible for the application.
(Note 7) We are going to provide new contract ID for monitor users besides existing contract ID. My UQ ID will also be separate.
(Note 8) Basic rate for two lines will be applied after July 1st, 2009.
(Note 9) USB type data communication card (UD01NA, UD01SS) shall not be connected to WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway we are providing at this time.
(Note 10) Wi-Fi is registered trademark of Wi-Fi Alliance.


2. WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set

The WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway is handy with a combination of Wireless LAN access point, and detachable USB type data communication card. Sale of the device is to be announced.

[General Notes]


(Note 1) WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway Set consists of UG01OK and UD01OK.
(Note 2) UG01OK (WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway part) will not connect with other USB type data communication cards (UD01NA, UD01SS).
(Note 3) Wi-Fi Gateway can connect with default setting. Detailed screen setting is available on main device, validated with InternetExplorerInternet Explorer 6 and 7 in Windows environment.
(Note 4) Transmission can be none or degraded at weak signal area (indoor, in the car, underground, in the tunnel, narrow rows of buildings, mountain-ringed region, etc) even within the service coverage area. Service also may not be available even at higher floors.
(Note 5) This WiMAX Wi-Fi Gateway is intended for domestic use only. It is not possible to use the device outside Japan.
