UQ Communications Demonstrates World's First WiMAX 2 Field Trial

Realizing 100Mbps Wireless Transmission under Mobile Environment


TOKYO, July 6, 2011 - UQ Communications Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Akio Nozaka, hereafter; UQ) today announced that UQ succeeded over 100Mbps transmission for downlink in the world's first WiMAX 2 field trial under mobile environment around Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo with cooperating withSamsung Electronics Co., Ltd.(Korea) .


WiMAX Forum Release 2 (WiMAX 2) based on IEEE802.16m is the evolved technology of WiMAX offering commercial service today. Standardization of IEEE802.16m has been completed in March 2011 and WiMAX 2 has been standardized in WiMAX Forum in May 2011. IEEE802.16m has been proposed as IMT-Advanced technology from IEEE and Japan to ITU (International Telecommunication Union), and will be approved next year. WiMAX 2 system development for commercial has been in progress in parallel with its standardization activity.


At CEATEC Japan held in October, 2010, UQ already succeeded live demonstration of WiMAX 2 showing over 300Mbps transmission for downlink in wired environment with 40MHz bandwidth. In this May, UQ got an experimental license of WiMAX 2 system using 2.6GHz radio, and succeeded over 100Mbps transmission for downlink under mobile environment with 20MHz bandwidth around Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.


UQ continues to trial for high speed data transmission and system performance evaluation tests under the outside environment in central city by using WiMAX 2 trial base station.


UQ verifies the result of WiMAX 2 field trial and plans to start WiMAX 2 service to the market from early Y.2013 onward,


UQ Communications will continue to offer the highest internet experiences and enhanced WiMAX service, and will expand area coverage
