“Speed Wi-Fi NEXT WX01” – The world’s first Wi-Fi router that supports 4x4 MIMO Mobile Wi-Fi Router with a Maximum Download Speed of 220Mbps

UQ Communications Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Akio Nozaka, hereafter: UQ) announced that its “Speed Wi-Fi NEXT WX01” mobile Wi-Fi router which is the world’s first to use 4x4 MIMO *1 (manufacturer: NEC Platforms, hereinafter "WX01") will be released as part of its new “Speed Wi-Fi NEXT” series of ultra high-speed (maximum download speed of 220Mbps*2) mobile Wi-Fi routers in the beginning of March (tentative). The router will be available from the UQ WiMAX online shop and at MVNO shops.

By utilizing the world’s first 4x4 MIMO technology, “WX01” is a mobile Wi-Fi router that is compatible with both the high-speed “WiMAX 2+” (maximum downlink speed of 220Mbps) and WiMAX (maximum downlink speed of 40Mbps*3) networks. With this router, customers can easily enjoy Internet access with a maximum download speed of 220Mbps according to their lifestyle.

“WX01” – with its simple, flat design – is UQ’s first router to feature Bluetooth tethering with low power consumption. Tablets and smartphones connected to the router will also enjoy longer battery life.
With the optional custom cradle (sold separately), the router can be used conveniently as a home router. Take advantage of the ultra-high-speed connection anywhere you are.

  • *1  Stands for “Multiple Input Multiple Output”. “Speed Wi-Fi NEXT WX01” is the world’s first mobile Wi-Fi router that provides ultra-high-speed data transfers (maximum download speed of 220Mbps) for WiMAX 2+ service areas by sending and receiving multiple data simultaneously with the use of 4 antennas on the data sending end (base station) and receiving end (router).
  • *2  In areas that are not covered, the maximum download speed is 110Mbps. Information on service areas with a maximum download speed of 220Mbps will be announced on our homepage.
The WiMAX 2+ capable mobile router “Wi-Fi WALKER WiMAX 2+ HWD14/HWD15/NAD11” does not support the maximum download speed of 220Mbps.
The maximum download speed is 110Mbps for that device.
  • *3  From February 12, 2015 (Thursday), the maximum download speed for WiMAX will change from 40Mbps to 13.3Mbps by service area.
